Houston Uber Accidents

If you were injured in an accident while riding in an Uber, you may have grounds for a lawsuit. Reach out to an Uber accident attorney in Houston to hold the liable parties accountable and file a claim.

When you’re riding in an Uber and your Uber driver gets into an accident, it can be difficult to understand who’s at fault. Clearly, as a passenger, you won’t be held responsible for any injuries you suffer, but obtaining compensation for your injuries will be more complex when you’re dealing with third-party insurance companies.

At Crain Brogdon, LLP., we understand that Uber accidents can be overwhelming for passengers. Whether the Uber driver is at fault or the driver of the colliding vehicle is at fault, a Houston Uber accident lawyer from our team will help investigate your case and identify all liable parties. Once we determine whose insurance company to contact for compensation, we’ll begin filing a claim.

Typical Reasons Why Uber Accidents Occur

Uber accidents can occur for the same reasons as typical vehicle accidents. If another driver hits an Uber driver, that driver may have been driving under the influence, texting while driving, or speeding. Uber drivers are more likely to get into accidents due to drowsy driving or distracted driving because of the circumstances of their occupation.

For example, an Uber driver may be distracted and looking at their phone as they try to accept another ride while driving you. They may also be drowsy while driving because they’re working late into the night and early in the morning to make extra money.

Uber Liability Coverage

Although Uber doesn’t provide insurance to their drivers when they aren’t using the app, they do provide specific liability coverage to both drivers and riders when the app is being used. Uber’s liability coverage includes the following:

  • When the driver is logged into the app but has yet to accept a ride, Uber provides liability coverage for any accident that is the fault of the driver with a maximum of $50,000 per person injured in an accident; $100,000 maximum injury liability per accident; and, $25,000 maximum property damage liability.
  • When the driver has accepted a trip or ride, Uber provides liability coverage with a maximum of $1 million.

Thankfully, Uber’s liability coverage protects the driver, any passengers, and any driver or passengers in colliding vehicles. What Uber’s liability coverage won’t cover, however, is if the Uber driver wasn’t at fault for the accident.

Your Uber accident lawyer in Houston will need to file a lawsuit and prove negligence on behalf of the colliding driver if you hope to obtain compensation for a wreck that was the colliding driver’s fault.
